I moved to Frome in 2015 with my husband and dog. In 2016 we welcomed our first child, Ossian into the world. After my birth I felt a strong desire to support other women through their transition into motherhood. I had a positive and empowering birth experience and felt really well supported and informed throughout my pregnancy, birth and postnatally by my doula, my husband and midwife.
Postnatally when I met with other mums I found that many women had experienced un- empowered births resulting in difficult feelings such as trauma, grief and guilt. It became clear to me that what made my home birth experience so positive wasn’t just down to ‘luck’ but it was in large part due to the preparation I had done with my doula and partner in my pregnancy, to inform myself and learn to trust my body and my instincts for my birth. I then decided to train with Conscious Birthing with Kate Woods in 2017 and am now a qualified Doula.
Alongside my doula work, I continue to work as an Illustrator and artist, creating children’s picture books and oil paintings of landscapes and still life. I’d like to think that my characteristic of creative hands and mind lends itself lovingly to supporting families during pregnancy and birth. When I’m not doodling or painting I enjoy micro adventures with my son Ossian, from wild swimming to woodland wandering. I’m a keen swimmer and runner and enjoy staying fit and cooking food for friends and bringing people together in our home around our large kitchen table.
